Month in Focus – May 21

Merritts work across multiple sectors, regularly carrying out over 100 heavy machinery removal, installation, and transportation projects per month. We provide the world’s leading machinery manufacturers with specialist machinery moving, lifting, installation and storage services.

Heavy machinery movers

A major aspect of the service we provide is our commitment to health & safety. For each project, our H&S Department, headed by an ex HSE inspector, provides customers with a suite of documents to evidence our credentials. These include method statements, risk assessments, lift plans, personnel training records and plant and equipment inspection certificates. This helps to ensure all projects will be carried out safely and in accordance with the required legislation.

The examples below highlight just a few of the heavy machinery and equipment moving projects that we completed last month.

MERRITTS USE NEW 58TE CAPACITY MC-580 PICK & CARRY CRANE TO OFFLOAD & POSITION ENGEL’S NEW WINTEC INJECTION MOULDING MACHINE

Merritts were appointed by ENGEL to deliver and position their new Wintec dual platen injection moulding machine. The brand new piece of equipment was stored temporarily at Merritts’ Nottinghamshire based storage facility before onward transit to ENGEL’s Warwick showroom, where ENGEL are offering customers a personalised tour of the facility and their machinery.

 – Organise customs clearance documentation for the import of the machine

– Arrange the delivery of the machine to our facility in Nottinghamshire

– Offload machinery from transport using JMG MC-580 pick & carry crane

– Unpack machinery and prepare for onward delivery

– Place machine into interim storage in our secure warehouse facility

– Remove and safely dispose of all packaging materials

– Load to Merritts transport and deliver to ENGEL UK’s showroom in Warwick

– Offload the machine with the MC-580 crane, carry into the facility and position as required

“Merritts handled everything from port of entry (which unexpectedly changed at the last minute) to installation onsite. It was a very professional and efficient service, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.”

Bob Horscroft, Technical Manager, ENGEL UK

INSTALLATION OF MACHINERY FOR MIDLANDS BASED PAPER MANUFACTURERS

As a leading supplier of paper products to major retailers throughout the UK, this Midlands based paper manufacturer got in touch with us to receive, store and deliver their new, high value, paper production lines. A brief overview of the project included:

  • Receive imported machinery at our premises in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and offload into our stores
  • Safely store the machinery until the receiving site was ready to accept the machinery
  • Load to Merritts transport and take to the new location
  • Offload machinery and move into the facility
  • Unpack machinery and dispose of packaging
  • Position as required within the facility

CONVEYOR SYSTEM STORAGE AND INSTALLATION SERVICES

Based in Derbyshire, this manufacturer of state of the art material handling systems provides its customers with high quality products and services, specifically for the corrugated packaging industry. They required us to collect 7 x trailers of machinery from their manufacturing facility, deliver to our storage facility and offload and store. All items were logged into our warehouse management system. At the end of the storage period, we then loaded and transported the equipment to its new destination in Scotland, where we then offloaded into the receiving facility.

STORAGE AND DELIVERY SERVICES FOR A LEADING FIBRE NETWORK INFRASTUCTURE PROVIDER

Merritts were approached by a fibre network infrastructure provider to receive, store, and deliver 15 of their data modules. The modules were 14 Te in weight with dimensions of 12m long x 3.6m wide x 3.2m high, and were accompanied with ancillary items which included, generators, batteries, and air conditioning units. The items were destined for numerous sites throughout the UK. A breakdown of this project included:

  • Receiving the items into Merritts stores: A 60 Te mobile crane was utilised to offload the main modules. Forklift trucks were used to offload the ancillary items and move into Merritts stores.
  • Goods were inspected on delivery to check for any damage.
  • A storage area was provided exclusively for the use of the customer. This allowed access for the customer’s engineers to carry out install works on the modules.
  • When the receiving sites were ready to accept the modules, we would load items to our transport and delivery to the destination.
  • Highways notifications were arranged due to the out of gauge nature of the modules.
  • The modules were offloaded at site with mobile crane and the ancillary items were offloaded with forklift truck.

A NUMBER OF DELIVERIES AND INSTALLATIONS FOR A MAJOR MANUFACTURER OF PRECISION METAL CUTTING AND BENDING MACHINERY

A regular customer of Merritts; we provide them with storage, delivery, and installation services for their machinery throughout the whole of the UK. A typical project would include:

  • Receive machinery at Merritts and enter into our secure storage facility
  • Load machinery to Merritts covered transport and delivery to their customer
  • Offloading of machinery using Merritts Versa-Lift trucks
  • De-crating of machinery and delivery into the customer’s facility on machinery moving skates
  • Positioning of machinery as required
  • Assist manufacturer’s engineers with the commissioning of the machinery
  • Disposal of packaging and redundant machinery where required

As an added benefit, Merritts often provide out of hours or weekend working to ensure ongoing production schedules are not affected.

If you are considering a heavy machinery removal, relocation or installation project, need to temporarily store new or redundant heavy machinery, or simply need space to carry out servicing and maintenance, please get in touch.

We’ll be back next month with another update, but until then you can follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for more regular news from our team.
