Baler Installation by Merritts Machinery Movers at Grantham Site

Merritts have completed the delivery and installation of an industrial baler and incline conveyor at a customer site in Grantham, Lincolnshire. The Paal Dokon 700 Horizontal Baler and the Incline Conveyor system were delivered and installed by Merritts on behalf of long term customer, Dicom Paal.

The Nottinghamshire based company had to collect the items from the main manufacturing facility in Paal, Germany before being able to deliver and offload the machines at the customer site in the UK.

As the machines had to be delivered and installed within a short time frame, Merritts provided a fully project managed service to ensure that the machines were safely delivered to the site.

Making the necessary transport arrangements from the site in Germany, the items were collected and shipped from the supplier and delivered to site within the specific time frame. To increase the efficiency of the project, Merritts ensured that ground preparations were made before the machines were delivered to the UK site.

Merritts also provided comprehensive risk assessments and method statements to ensure that the delivery and baler installation was carried out safely and efficiently. Appointed persons were also provided for the project, to ensure that the machinery could be lifted safely into the facility, before being assembled and installed by Merritts trained engineers.

Dicom Paal produced general arrangement drawings for the installation which provided the crucial information required to construct, test, lift, transport and install the equipment safely and efficiently at the site.

The installation involved the offloading and positioning of the items using a Fassi 660XP lorry mounted crane and an AC100 mobile crane which had a lifting capacity of 100 tonnes.

Using the AC100 mobile crane, Merritts Machinery Movers offloaded the main body of the baler installation and lowered the section on to a specially designed pre-cast plinth. The Fassi 660XP lorry mounted crane and a specialist versa lift truck were then used to lift, transport, manoeuvre and install the remaining machine ancillaries into position at the site, after the major sections of the baler had been correctly installed.

The incline conveyor was then loaded on to a Merritts vehicle which moved the item into the facility, before being offloaded and installed using the Fassi 660XP crane, the conveyor unit could then be installed into position using the crane lorry and the versa lift truck.

After successfully offloading the items, the baler and incline conveyor could then be assembled, levelled off and securely bolted into place at the facility.

Dicom Paal provided full commissioning of the equipment, which included a full test procedure of the machine and training for the site operatives. Merritts then completed the project by erecting strengthened perimeter fencing around the machine to ensure safe operations at the site in the future.
