For nearly 100 years Merritts has provided a heavy machinery moving service for companies in the plastics and rubber sector. This article outlines some of the heavy machinery moving and factory relocation projects we have recently completed for manufacturing companies in this sector.

Machinery Moving Specialists for the Plastics & Rubber Sector

Over the last 50 years, plastics have replaced many traditional materials such as glass, metal, paper or wood for many applications. This can include what products are made from, right through to being used as packaging for food and pharmaceutical goods.

In 2020, global plastics production decreased by 3% as a result of the fall in demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, when you consider that in 2019, 368 million metric tons was still produced – activity within the heavy machinery moving market was still very buoyant.

Manufacturers in the plastics and rubber sector were either ramping up production and installing new machinery or taking the opportunity to reduce production costs by carrying out internal machinery moves or factory relocation projects to improve output efficiencies.

Others took the opportunity to carry out factory relocation projects which increased demand for machinery transportation and industrial storage facilities. So, as you can imagine, our team was also very busy planning each heavy machinery moving project on behalf of numerous major companies within the sector.

Below is a brief overview of some of the machine moves and machine or factory relocation projects we have recently completed for plastics and rubber manufacturing companies:

  • Delivery, offloading and positioning of a new Wintec dual platen injection moulding machine for ENGEL at their Warwick showroom.
  • Relocation of 4 injection moulding machines from Dubai to the UK. Merritts arranged for a crew to go over to Dubai to assist with the dismantling, packing, and loading out of the machinery, and then assisting with the re-installation in the UK.
  • Provision of storage services for injection moulding machinery. With single pieces of machinery weighing in excess of 55 Tonnes, we were able to offload the moulding machines into our secure Midlands based storage facility using our Enerpac Super-Lift hydraulic jacking system. At a later date we reloaded the machinery to our specialist transport trailers and carried out delivery and installation.
  • Coordination of machinery relocation for a major plastics and rubber machinery manufacturer based in Italy. Machinery was then shipped to the UK where Merritts completed the onward machinery transport and installation.

Continual investment in market-leading equipment, vehicles, and high calibre personnel means we have the necessary resources to safely carry out all of your machinery moving requirements. We realise that every project is unique so we will always work with the customer to understand their exact requirements in order to create a bespoke project package that is tailored specifically for them.

We also ensure all aspects of health and safety are covered, including the provision of detailed risk assessments, method statements, lift plans, training documentation and plant certification records. We plan everything to the finest detail and can offer out of hours or weekend working to ensure your machine moving project is managed in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.

If you are looking for a long-term partner to help you with heavy machinery removals, transportation, or storage requirements, Merritts is here to help.
