CityFibre required an interim storage solution for its FEX cabins and ancillary equipment until the destination sites were ready to receive them. Merritts provided 10,000 sq ft of storage area as well as carrying out offloading and handling services.
Merritts were approached by CityFibre to provide a secure storage facility to store 14 of its FEX cabins (Dims: 13m x 3.7m x 3.5m. Weight: 14 Tonnes) and all associated ancillary equipment which included 14 x generators, 84 x air conditioning units, 12 x meter cabinets, and over 1000 x batteries, for a period of approximately 6 months, until the receiving sites were ready to accept them.
The items were delivered to Merritts on a total of 25 trailers. The 14 Tonne FEX cabins were offloaded from transport by mobile cranes, placed onto skates and safely maneuvered into Merritts’ warehouses. All ancillary items were offloaded with a combination of 7Te and 3Te rated fork trucks and placed into CityFibre’s dedicated storage area.
Merritts created a full inventory of all items, detailing their serial numbers and locations within the storage facility and produced a layout drawing to give an ongoing visual representation of stock levels.
When the receiving sites were ready to accept the items, Merritts would reload them to transport and deliver as required (arranging necessary Movement Orders for the FEX cabins, due to them being over 2.9m wide). Receiving sites were based throughout the whole of the UK, ranging from Glasgow, down to Plymouth.
Merritts would carry out site visits where required to ascertain the safest and most appropriate lifting methods and produce comprehensive lift plans, risk assessments and method statements.
Merritts provided comprehensive all risks insurance cover up to a total value of £4m for the items. This included insurance cover for the items whilst in our stores and also whilst the items were being handled.
