Industrial Safety

Merritt Industrial Training, a division of Merritts, has been offering safety related training courses for nearly 20 years.

MIT provides training for individuals, companies and public sector organisations.

Courses are delivered both at our training centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and on customers' premises; and include:

 

RTITB Fork Lift Truck

Our RTITB approved instructors deliver nationally accredited training in the following truck types:

Counterbalance, Reach, Rough Terrain Telescopic Handler and Pedestrian Operated Truck. 

Courses are available for all operator levels: novice, experienced operator, refresher and conversion.

Trainees are also invited to join the National Operator Registration Scheme.

Training can also be delivered to Merritts' Certificate on other truck types, including: articulate truck and narrow aisle.

Our forklift training centre is within easy travel from Chesterfield, Mansfield, Nottingham and Derby.

 

 

ADR - Transport of Hazardous Goods

(Previously a Hazchem certificate)

The course is delivered to nationally accredited standards and is for all drivers who are intending to transport dangerous goods (hazardous goods) that come within the scope of the UK CDG (Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations)

ADR training has to be in the classroom and the course content and examinations are set by SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority)

 

Manual Handling

This short course is designed to raise awareness of the Manual Handling Regulations and promote good practise in the workplace; courses are available to both Operator and Instructor levels.

content includes:

 - Risk Factors and How Injuries Occur

 - How to plan your lift

 - Lifting methods and use of mechanical aids


Safety in the Fitting of Abrasive Wheels

This course is designed to raise awareness on how to prevent accidents when using and mounting abrasive wheels.

 It does not enter into technical aspects of grinding or operational techniques. Courses are available for both Bench mounted and Handheld grinders.

 

 

Content includes:

 - Awareness of Hazards and risks arising from use of Abrasive Wheels

 - Methods of marking type, size and speed

 - Methods of storing, handling and transporting

 - Inspecting and testing for damage

 - Functions of all components used with abrasive wheels

 - How to assemble abrasive wheels correctly

 - Methods of dressing an Abrasive Wheel

 

Lifting and Slinging using Overhead Crane

This course is designed to provide delegates with basic underpinning knowledge of operations of overhead pendant crane and lifting and slinging to enable them to carry out their lifting operations in accordance with statutory requirements (LOLER) and without risk to health and safety.

Content includes:

 -Inspection and Use of Lifting Equipment (Chains, Ropes & Tackle)

 -Movement of Loads

 -Slinging Methods

 -Estimation of Weight

 -The role of the Banksman

 

Emergency Aid (Appointed Person)

This short course is designed to ensure that a person designated as an Appointed Person is able to carry out basic emergency First aid in the workplace in accordance with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations Guidelines until a First Aid at Work qualified person or further qualified help arrives.

Course includes:

-Resuscitation

-Control of bleeding

-Treatment of unconscious casualty

-Reporting procedures

-Legal requirements as under HSE guidelines

 

Fire Safety Awareness

This short course has been designed to cover an employer's legal requirment under current Health and Safety and Fire Safety Regulations to provide fire safety training to all employees.

Course includes:

 -Types of Fire

 -Sources of Ignition

 -Causes of Fire

 -Reporting of Hazards

 -Action on discovery of Fire

 

RTITB Vehicle Mounted Hydraulic Loader (HIAB)

 Our RTITB approved instructors deliver this course to a nationally accredited standard which is designed to enable operators of Vehicle Mounted Hydraulic Loaders (HIAB) to work confidently in accordance with the Health and Safety Commission's Approved Code of Practice and supplementary guide.

Courses are available for all operator levels: novice, experienced operator and refresher. Trainees are also invited to join the National Operator Registration Scheme.

 

Safety Awareness

This course is designed to raise awareness and provide a grounding in the fundamentals of good health & safety practise in the workplace for people from a practical background.

We also deliver a specific Safety Awareness course aimed at Office Workers.

Course includes basic information on:

 - Health & Safety at Work Act

 -RIDDOR

 -COSHH/REACH

 -Mechanical Hazards

 -Machinery Regulations

 -Noise

 -Background to Manual Handling and Fire
