Transportation and Installation of Printing Machines
Customer:
Heidelberg UK (Northern Division), global market leader in the production of print media solutions.
Machine Types:
Full range of machinery and equipment for prepress, printing and finishing applications. Products range from 0.75T guillotine to sectional 12 colour printing presses with a total weight of 85T.
Service:
As an approved supplier, Merritts are required to transport, offload and position Heidelberg printing machines at customer premises throughout the UK.
Special Requirements:
Merritts represent Heidelberg when on customer sites; and as such must perform to the same exacting standards of professionalism, technical competence and customer service.
Both our office and site based personnel must develop a detailed knowledge of Heidelberg's product range to enable safe and efficient handling of the equipment.
Flexibility and adaptability are vital to the success of the partnership. Installations may be undertaken ‘out of hours’ to minimise disruption to the customer’s production. Where required our technical team will conduct a pre-installation site survey to identify any potentially difficult conditions relating to access and flooring, and formulate a solution.
An ability to respond quickly is also essential; both in the turnaround of quotations and in the mobilisation of personnel and vehicles to accomplish short lead time deliveries from stock.
Case Study
Machines are typically collected from HUK designated stores by Merritts and are then held overnight at our warehouse facilities before onward transit to customer premises. A suitable vehicle is chosen to suit the model of machine, available options include: rigid and articulated crane lorries, lowloaders and euroliners. Alternatively machines may be delivered direct from Heidelberg’s manufacturing plants in Germany by a European haulier. Specialist lifting tackle and gantries are collected simultaneously from HUK by one of our transit pick ups or crane lorries.
Machines are offloaded and lifted from timber bases, these are later disposed of by Merritts at an approved recycling centre on HUKs behalf. A variety of lifting methods may be employed ranging from lorry mounted cranes, to lift trucks or specialist versalifts.
Merritts personnel then work alongside Heidelberg installation engineers to dock and position the machines ready for final commission.
